What are BOTOX® and Xeomin®?
Derived from the botulinum toxin, BOTOX® and Xeomin® are neurotoxin injectables. Unlike dermal fillers that are injected underneath the skin, neurotoxins are administered directly into the muscles of treated areas with a fine needle. Once neurotoxins have been injected, they block nerve signals from reaching facial muscles, preventing the muscle contractions that cause fine lines and wrinkles and temporarily relaxing treated areas.
BOTOX® and Xeomin® smooth out the skin and subtly enhance your natural features. Although both neurotoxins are produced by different companies and have slight differences in the production process, the effectiveness of treatment and results are comparable:
- Within three to four days after treatment, both BOTOX® and Xeomin® begin to relax underlying muscle activity
- The effects of both neurotoxins can last from three to six months
- BOTOX® and Xeomin® are FDA-approved and clinically proven to treat crow’s feet, frown lines, forehead wrinkles and other signs of aging around the eyes, nose and mouth.
At Nancy Shibayama, M.D., Inc., Dr. Shibayama performs all neurotoxin treatments herself to ensure maximum safety and results.
Am I a Good Candidate for BOTOX® and Xeomin®?
During your consultation, Dr. Shibayama will evaluate factors such as your general health, medical history, cosmetic goals and expectations. An allergy test may be performed prior to treatment to reduce the risk of adverse reactions. While BOTOX® and Xeomin® have been clinically studied and have a proven safety profile, neurotoxin treatment is not for everyone. Doctor Shibayama will help you determine whether neurotoxin injectables are right for you.
Are There Any Side Effects?
Slight bruising, swelling and redness can occur at injection sites, but these common side effects are temporary. It is often advised to avoid rubbing or massaging treated areas, as the botulinum toxin can move to other areas of the body and cause drooping or weakness.
While there is no way to prevent the aging process, regular treatment with BOTOX® and Xeomin® can effectively manage the visible signs of aging over the long term. Results may vary from patient to patient, and multiple sessions may be required to achieve desired results.
