IPL photofacials are an ideal solution for acne that is resistant to more traditional methods of treatment. The light kills many of the bacteria that cause acne. It also increases enzymes in the skin that reduce acne. While this treatment will not get rid of acne scars (see the fractional resurfacing section for this treatment) it may reduce future scarring.
Unlike medispas and most doctor's offices, all photofacial procedures are evaluated and performed by Dr. Shibayama personally to ensure optimal safety and results.
Who is a good candidate for IPL acne treatments?
Anyone with acne that is intolerant to or resistant to traditional methods such as topical and oral antibiotics and benzoyl peroxide.
What are the procedures like?
Most patients describe the sensation like a mild rubber band snap. The settings on the machine can be adjusted to maximize effectiveness while optimizing comfort.
How many treatments are needed?
Most patients see a reduction in acne within one week of the first treatment. Treatments are scheduled anywhere between twice a week to every two weeks. On average five to six treatments are recommended.
How long do the results last?
Each patient's response is highly variable. In general results should last months to years once the treatment series has been completed. Occassionally a touch up may be needed every three or four months.
All procedures
are performed by Dr. Shibayama.
